When the cats away

The mouse will play with his toys

It was when my wife decided to visit her mum in the UK. for a few days, and my son and I had the house to ourselves, I decided I would like to take him model aeroplane flying !

I had to use a little bit of bait to get him there, as it's not really his thing, but I thought he might enjoy a new experience, ever the thoughtful father me !!

During the winter months the model  flying club commandeer a gymnasium in Bergerac, in order to fly during inclement weather, their indoor type of aeroplane. I've bought one, and it's a little beauty.

That's it, cute ?  It's as light as a feather and is electric powered and radio controlled.

Any way the bait I used was a visit to the restaurant we visit frequently in Bergerac. As we have to use the gym when everybody else has finished, the session doesn't start until 9 o'clock at night and goes on until about 11 o'clock, by the time we have finished and packed stuff away, I'm back home by about midnight. It fits in quite well with eating at about 8 o'clock and around the corner is the gym.

The restaurant is one of a chain of eateries here in France called "Crescendo". There is always a good and large choice on the menu, but rather than going for the British choice of burger or steak, I'm always up for a challenge and try to choose something different each visit. One thing you do have to be careful of when visiting a restuarant here, which is part of a chain, is not to assume that the standard is always the same in each one, the French tend to franchise a lot of businesses and restaurants are no exception, you could be eating very well in one, and throwing up in the next !!

The choice of "speciality" dishes that night, was Pasta, Paella, or a Perigordian platter.  I chose the latter of course and my lad, the burger, which I might add is excellent and cooked to your taste.

Well, the platter arrived with salad leaves, roasted potatoes in breadcrumbs, duck breast (magret) rare of course, diced and fried bacon and duck gizzards lightly fried, together with a baked parcel of goats cheese wrapped in filo pastry, and a little sauclightly drizzled over the salad as a finishing touch all washed down with a glass of Bordeaux. All that for less than 8 euro. I wasn't complaining when we also polished off the "creme brulee" pud.

I just about managed to fly the plane after that lot. But the drive home afterwards was a little slower than usual.

Think I might do than again soon !!
